Our family legacy
My family has been making furniture for decades, and I couldn’t be more proud and enthusiastic to continue a family tradition passed down through the generations.
The centuries-old history of our company begins with my great-grandfather, Beniamino Mandruzzato. He founded the family business in 1934 and taught my grandfather Luigi the carving and modeling techniques he would later use.
Luigi, in turn, passed on the extensive knowledge he had acquired over the years to his son Gianfranco.
My father, Gianfranco, had the opportunity to work on projects for world-renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Marc Chagall, and Max Ernst, commissioned by the Fucina degli Angeli furnace. His expertise and unique experiences inspired him to create unique geometric designs unlike any other of his time.
Between tradition and experimentation
Ever since I was a child growing up on Murano, I knew I would one day pursue a career in glassmaking. After all, I was destined to take over the family business.
Although children were never allowed near fire, stone grinders, or drills, I was fascinated from an early age, watching my family harmoniously create works of extraordinary beauty with fine Murano glass.
To hone and perfect my polishing skills as a professional craftsman, I followed my father Gianfranco’s guidance. Once I completed my training in 2000, I decided to blend my new skills with family traditions to progress and establish myself as an independent sculptor.
It was then that I began mixing different materials with Murano glass to give it a contemporary touch, including wood, stainless steel, and a variety of precious metals.
Iconic works and excellent collaborations
Among my favorite creations to date are a 7m x 4m sculpture weighing 1,280kg, known as “Anghelos,” and a work titled “Embrace,” exhibited at the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. Another of my favorites is “Diva,” a sculpture permanently on display at the contemporary art exhibition at the Hermitage City Museum in St. Petersburg.
My client list includes such renowned names as Dolce & Gabbana, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf & Goodman, Harrods, Nissan Motors, Christian Dior, Ajmal Dubai Perfumes, and others. I strive for perfection in service and quality, which is why the job is never finished until my client is completely satisfied. When I witness the joy and enthusiasm expressed by a client, I know that the countless hours of work I put into each piece are more than worthwhile.
My company officially obtained the registered trademark in 2011, and being located in the Venice lagoon, we fully comply with all European and UNESCO safety regulations. Only 47 families have been approved by Vetro Artistico Murano, an organization that protects Italian artisans and their right to produce glass on the island of Murano. The Mandruzzato family is proud to own factory number 38.
