The Coste Vase is a 16-cm-tall Murano glass amphora, a refined example of Venetian artistic craftsmanship, designed by Beniamino Mandruzzato, founder of the historic Mandruzzato glassworks. It is part of the Giardini Collection, created in the 1950s and inspired by the forms of nature and the reflections of the water flowing through Venice.
The shape evokes the classical amphora, reinterpreted in a modern key with harmonious proportions and a solid yet elegant presence. The surface is characterized by vertical ribs that run down the body of the vase, marking it with a regular and decisive rhythm. The ribs lend structure and depth, creating a refined interplay between light and material.
Handcrafted using authentic Murano techniques, the glass is blown in the furnace and then meticulously worked in the grinding workshop, where diamond-tipped wheels shape the surface to achieve the distinctive ribbed effect.
The vertical ribs capture and refract light, generating luminous vibrations and dynamic reflections that enhance the purity of the glass. The final effect is both architectural and natural: a perfect synthesis of artisanal tradition and formal innovation, an expression of the excellence of 1950s Murano glass.
